Fort Santiago: Imposing Structure

Fort Santiago is one of the first places to visit when arriving in Metro Manila. The fort, which is located in the ancient walled city of Intramuros, was completed in 1593. Many structures are built into the fort's stone walls, including the famous Rizal Shrine, which is dedicated to Rizal. From the Spanish conquest to World War II, the defense shaped the city. It is one of the best tourist places in Manila to visit with friends because not only is the area rich in history, but its ancient architecture makes for great photography spots and should be included in every traveler's itinerary in Manila. This is a popular tourist destination in Manila.

Visitors are welcome to explore the fort's interior and exterior. The dungeon is a particularly somber experience where visitors can pay their respects to those who have died. In the dungeon, a marble cross represents the mass grave where 600 prisoners of war were buried.

Fort Santiago
is close to many other significant landmarks in Manila. Visitors can easily incorporate this must-see location into their walking tour of the city.

The quickest and most convenient way to get to the fort is on a guided tour of Old Manila, but you can also go on your own using public transportation. If taking the LRT, exit at Central Station and walk to the Fort Entrance, or exit at Carriedo Station and take a jeepney to Mabini.
