Gotska Sandön
Gotska Sandön, located in Gotland County on the Baltic Sea, is another inhabited island in Sweden. This island offers the most relaxing view to tourists. Above all, the magnificent view along the coast will soothe your soul. In the olden days, pirates used to hide on this island. Now it has been converted into agricultural land.
Gotska Sandön National Park, the lone island of the Baltic Sea, is part of Gotland county. The national park covers an area of 4,500 ha, of which 3,638 ha island. You can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches, gray seals, and rare beetles here.
Since the island is made up of shifting sands, it has many hills and mountains. The highest dune, Höga Åsen, rises 42 meters above sea level.
A large part of the island is covered with pine forests of various ages. The oldest trees are probably almost 500 years old. The troughs between dunes, known as dune slacks, have deciduous trees in some places. The beach area is made up of sand and pebbles, and behind it is the so-called "dune."
