Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos (La Digue)

The beaches at Grand Anse, Petite Anse, and Anse Cocos are three of the best on the island of La Digue. They are linked by a trail that winds through the lush tropical forest. The beaches' startling blue seas and forceful surf are framed by majestic granite structures. Don't miss out on the untamed beauty and atmosphere of these wild bays!

Since there is no offshore coral reef here, Grand Anse is not protected from the open ocean, as is the case with many beaches in the island's southern parts. This means that the water can be turbulent, especially during the southeast trade winds, and the currents can carry you out to sea.

Swimming is not safe at Petite Anse, as it is at Grand Anse, and signposts will advise visitors of this. If you do decide to go into the water, make sure you don't go too far out and always have someone watching you. Both Petite Anse and Grand Anse are more suited to beach activities such as sunbathing and picnicking.

Anse Cocos is located east of La Digue, right up the coast from Petite Anse. With golden sand, shallow natural pool water, and shade provided by palm trees, you might easily spend an afternoon here sunbathing on the beach and paddling in the water.
