The University of Helsinki Central Hospital is Finland's largest university hospital and one of Europe's largest hospitals. It is made up of 17 hospitals in Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa, and it offers all major specializations.

Töölö hospital, one of the 17 hospitals, is one of the largest trauma centers in Northern Europe. The hospital offers emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and treats 20,000 trauma patients each year. Following the disaster, the Töölö hospital became a specialized medical center that treated individuals from all across the Uusimaa region.
