Ivan Franko National University of Lviv
The University of Lviv, formerly known as the Theresianum in the early nineteenth century and now known as the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, is the oldest institution of higher learning in modern-day Ukraine, having been founded in 1661 by John II Casimir, King of Poland. It has gone through many transformations, suspensions, and name changes over the centuries, reflecting the geopolitical complexities of this part of Europe. The current institution was founded in 1940. It's in the Lviv Oblast of Western Ukraine, in the historic city of Lviv.
Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is a traditional higher educational institution with strong scientific schools, long traditions, and innovative approaches. Its main goal is to meet high educational and scientific standards, as well as the cultural and social needs of individuals, society, and the state, while educating highly educated specialists.
