National Pedagogical Dragomanov University
National Pedagogical Dragomanov University is a public higher education institution in Ukraine that specializes in teacher training, as well as social work, law, political science, economics, ecology, design, translation, tourism, management, sociology, psychology, and philosophy, among other fields. Students are prepared for all types of training (full-time education, evening studies, extramural studies, external studies, parallel, remote learning) and all stages of education at the university (Bachelor, Master, PhD). Since 2006, the university has successfully embraced the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which has made its certificates officially recognized in the European education area as part of the Bologna process. Today, this university is one of the best universities in Ukraine.
The university was founded in the nineteenth century as the Pedagogical Institute of St. Volodymyr University and has undergone various modifications over the course of Ukraine's turbulent history, changing names and rising in size and importance. Throughout the university's more than 180-year history, it has served as an Alma mater for many notable figures in the country's scientific and political life, and it is today well-known both in Ukraine and beyond. The National Pedagogical Dragomanov University has entered the post-industrial age with a new level of global cooperation in the interests of sharing the institution's knowledge and thoughts on the role of the twenty-first-century teacher, as well as learning more from the outside, ready to develop through global scientific connections.
More than 16.000 students from all across Ukraine, as well as international students, are currently enrolled at National Pedagogical Dragomanov, who are taught by 2.500 teachers, 700 of whom hold a PhD and over 300 are Doctors of Science. The number of international students is increasing every year, rising from 27 in 2005 to more over 500 presently.
Apart from the central building with modern technology-equipped classrooms, NPDU has specialized university buildings, scientific libraries with a total of about 1.000.000 books and 170.000 periodicals, sports building with gyms and pools, Cultural Arts Center, e-learning media center, and easily accessible student dormitories throughout the city of Kyiv with student cantinas and internet cafés.
