Lviv Polytechnic National University
The major scientific university in Lviv is Lviv Polytechnic National University. It has been one of Central Europe's most prominent centers of scientific and technological progress since its founding in 1816. According to Times Higher Education, Lviv Polytechnic was placed among the top 1000 universities in the world in 2020. In 2019, the university has roughly 35,000 students enrolled.
There are 16 institutes and 114 departments at the institution, as well as autonomous, supplementary, and general subdivisions. Technical Academy was one of Europe's first technical schools, as well as Ukraine's first. The academy was renamed High Polytechnic School in 1877, and it became an Austro-Hungarian Empire higher technical educational institution. That new academic year began in a new structure on S. Bandery Street. Lviv Polytechnic was the name of the academic institution from 1921 to 1939. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1939, it was renamed Lviv Polytechnic Institute. Lviv Polytechnic Institute received the highest IV accreditation level, university status, and the name "Lviv Polytechnic State University" in June 1993, a year before its 150th anniversary. In 2000 Lviv Polytechnic got National University status. 8 July 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on their meeting designated Lviv Polytechnic National University as a self-management research higher educational institution.
