Kigwena Natural Forest

The Kigwena Natural Forest, which spans over 3,000 hectares and is conveniently placed on Burundi's National Route No. 3, is located in the Rumonge commune. The forest here is thick, and just walking through it seems like an adventure. Baboons, monkeys, and a variety of butterflies and birds may all be found in the forest. The country's Environmental and Conservation Institute offers a guided tour of the woodland.

It spans over the western piedmont of the Congo-Nile hills before descending to the lake on a gradual slope on the plain. Kigwena Natural Forest consists of a peri- Guinean forest with abundant wildlife and flora, including lush greenery, enormous calaos, a variety of monkeys (including baboons living in large families and other primates), as well as numerous bird and butterfly species.
