Lake Rwihinda Natural Reserve
Lake Rwihinda Natural Reserve is another hotspot for an astonishing variety of flora and wildlife, as well as a popular tourist destination in Burundi. The reserve is around 8,000 hectares in size and is made up of shrubland, woodland, and grassland. The lake and its surrounds are a protected area with some of the most unusual flora and animals in the world.
Lake Rwihinda Natural Reserve is another great spot for birdwatching. The number of unusual and beautiful birds that frequent this lake is too many to list. Despite preservation efforts, agriculture and declining water levels are having an impact on the reserve. For the time being, though, the reserve remains a must-see for visitors to Burundi.
Despite the fact that the area is renowned for fishing communities and farmland, the natural reserve has about 30% forest and the remainder heavy shrubland and marsh.
