King Fahd International Airport
The international airport servicing Dammam, Saudi Arabia, is King Fahd International Airport, sometimes referred to as Dammam International Airport, Dammam Airport, or simply King Fahd Airport. The airport, which bears Fahd ibn Abdulaziz's name, is situated 19 miles (31 kilometers) northwest of the center of Dammam. One of the three main international airports in Saudi Arabia, the airport services the entire Eastern Province of the country. Even though the airport building itself is just 327,000 m2, King Fahd International is the largest airport in the world in terms of land area, covering over 776 square kilometers (300 square miles).
The airport has three terminal buildings and two 4 km (2.5 km) long runways. The Passenger Terminal handles general passenger traffic, the Aramco Terminal handles employee boarding for Saudi Aramco Aviation, and the Royal Terminal is only accessible by the Saudi royal family. With 70 flights each week, the busiest route between Dammam and other cities is to and from Dubai.
In Saudi Arabia, King Fahd International Airport was the first to introduce duty-free shopping. The airport features a distinct section for businesses that specialize in the selling of gifts and all passenger-related goods in addition to the spaces designated for duty-free shops. The arrivals level is where you'll find banks, cafeterias, and restaurants. However, since there are no import or sales taxes on any goods in the Kingdom, the distinction is mostly meaningless.
