Suvarnabhumi Airport

One of two international airports serving the Bangkok Metropolitan Region is Suvarnabhumi Airport, sometimes known unofficially as Bangkok Airport. The other is Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), which is still operational as a hub for low-cost airlines. One of the largest international airports in Southeast Asia and a regional aviation center, Suvarnabhumi Airport has a 3,240 ha land area. The airport is a significant hub for air cargo (20th busiest in 2019), and it is also an Airport Free Zone with access to Motorway 7 and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

In addition to serving as the operating base for Thai Vietjet Air, Thai AirAsia, and Thai AirAsia X, the airport serves as the primary hub for Thai Airways International, Thai Smile, and Bangkok Airways. Additionally, it acts as a regional hub and point of connection for numerous international carriers flying to Asia, Oceania, Europe, and Africa.

On September 15, 2006, Suvarnabhumi began offering limited domestic flight service; on September 28, 2006, it began accepting most domestic and all international commercial flights.
