Kingdom
Yasuhisa Hara's "Kingdom" is a historical seinen manga series written and illustrated by him. The series was first serialized in Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2006, and as of July 2023, it had been collected into 63 tankbon volumes. The story takes place in ancient China during the Warring States period and follows the journey of a young orphan named Shin, who dreams of becoming a great general and uniting China under a single ruler. Shin embarks on a journey to realize his dream with his friend and fellow servant, Hyou, facing many challenges and battles along the way.
"Kingdom" is known for epic storytelling, well-developed characters, and intense battle scenes, as well as historical accuracy and detail. The series has received praise for depicting warfare and strategy, as well as for exploring themes such as leadership, loyalty, and sacrifice. The manga has been adapted into several anime series, a live-action film, and a stage play, and it has a large following both in Japan and abroad. Numerous awards have been bestowed upon it, including the Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga in 2013 and the 14th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2010.
