La Colombe d’Or
La Colombe d'Or, which opened its doors in 1931, became a haven for artists who were drawn to the area during both World Wars. The list of regulars grew over time to include Matisse, Picasso, and Miró, all of whom left art on the walls. The collection has only grown since then, and it's worth going outside to see the Fernand Léger mosaic and an Alexander Calder mobile that guards the pool.
The food is traditional, and the restaurant seats about 70 people in the main dining hall, 30 in a private room, and 100 on the garden terrace. The main dining area resembles something out of a movie set. The waiters are formal, with just enough English skills to serve a diverse clientele. It has an excellent wine list with high-quality wines at reasonable prices. It includes the house platter (antipasti) as well as a large basket of fresh vegetables, fresh fish, lamb chops, and so on.
