Lake Newell
Each summer, Lake Newell's water warms up wonderfully, making it a great vacation spot for lovers of water sports. This lake, which is actually a reservoir, attracts sunbathers from over the province and is only a short distance from Brooks. Here, it's common to go water skiing, wakeboarding, kiteboarding, sailing, and fishing.
The Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is the ideal location to experience the lake. One of the main draws of this area is the lengthy, broad sandy beach, which has shallow water and excellent amenities like a playground. The park includes 199 campsites, some of which have power, and camping is very popular there. Online reservations for sites are possible. There is a launch in the park if you have a boat.
If camping is not your thing, Brooks offers a variety of other lodging alternatives. The lake is well located for day trips to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dinosaur Provincial Park. The 45-minute drive is well worth it to visit this fascinating park. The day use of Alberta Provincial Parks is free.
