Mysore Zoo

Mysore Zoo comprises of 157 acres (64 hectares) and 113 acres (46 hectares) of Lake Karanji Nature Park and the Chamundi Conservation and Rehabilitation Center. Originally Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens started as a small private institution in the summer palace of Maharaja Sri Chamaraja Vodiyar. The spacious enclosure of the first palace zoo has been preserved.

After several expansions over time, Mysore Zoo became one of the largest animal care and research institutions in India. Today the zoo has more than 1400 animals in 168 species. For the past 20 years, zoos have been running animal adoption programs. There is also an artificial lake on the site of the facility. Birds and people are enjoying the lake.
