Nandankanan Zoological Park
Nandankanan Zoo is a zoo and botanical garden in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, covering a total area of 437 hectares (1080 acres). Founded in 1960, opened to the public in 1979 and became the first zoo in India to join the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009. It includes Chandaka Forest and Lake Kanza with an area of 54 hectares.
In the year 2000 (after the damage caused by the 1999 Odisha Coastal Supercyclone), significant modernization took place. More than 2.6 million visitors a year visit Nandankanan.
