Pamir Highway
Tajikistan is connected to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan by the Pamir Highway. There's no better way to see stunning valleys, spectacular mountain views, and cliffs than by driving along the Pamir Highway.
The route over the Pamir Mountains has been used as part of the ancient Silk Road for millennia. During the Great Game in the nineteenth century, a standardized route was mapped out, and road-building was completed in the 1930s. The road is now unsteady and only partially paved, yet it provides an incredible experience for cyclists and road trip enthusiasts. The trip is indeed more essential than the destination in this case. Enjoy the amazing ride across this magnificently wild environment, stopping to make new friends in villages along the way.
Keep an eye out for yak herds along the trip. If you're lucky, you might spot the elusive Marco Polo sheep in the highest reaches of the surrounding mountains.
