  1. On the shores of Iskanderkul, listen to local traditions about Alexander the Great and his horse. Iskander is Alexander the Great's native name, while Kul means "lake." Isn't it wonderful that the legend of Alexander's invasion of Asia has survived in this faraway land? It's now your chance to learn about the legendary warrior's history and visualize him standing alongside the lake.

Hiking, camping, and swimming are all popular recreational activities in Iskanderkul Lake. It is one of the greatest glacial lakes in northwest Tajikistan and is situated between the magnificent Fann Mountains.

The lake is stunning, with a distinct vibe that will captivate you. The blue waters, which contrast with the red rocks of the highlands, create a unique atmosphere. After spending the day sunbathing on the lake's shores, spend the night at one of the neighboring guesthouses. As the sky darkens after nightfall, the lake takes on a surreal tranquillity.

Turbaza is the place to go if you want to explore the lake by boat. This is an ancient lakeside resort where you can rent a boat.

For much of its Soviet existence, Khujand was known as Leninabad, and many residents still refer to it as such. Khujand is now a focal point for Tajikistan's industrial, scientific, and cultural development.

  4. Tajikistan is connected to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan by the Pamir Highway. There's no better way to see stunning valleys, spectacular mountain views, and cliffs than by driving along the Pamir Highway.

The route over the Pamir Mountains has been used as part of the ancient Silk Road for millennia. During the Great Game in the nineteenth century, a standardized route was mapped out, and road-building was completed in the 1930s. The road is now unsteady and only partially paved, yet it provides an incredible experience for cyclists and road trip enthusiasts. The trip is indeed more essential than the destination in this case. Enjoy the amazing ride across this magnificently wild environment, stopping to make new friends in villages along the way.

Keep an eye out for yak herds along the trip. If you're lucky, you might spot the elusive Marco Polo sheep in the highest reaches of the surrounding mountains.

As you walk around, you'll notice the lake's and the village's distinct atmosphere and desolation.

The lake's dazzling blue water is captivating, as are the reflections of the beautiful scenery and snow-covered peaks in the waters. Be enthralled by the Peaks of Lenin and Avicenna, which stand tall in all their majesty among the deep blue skies.

Spend the night at Karakul to see the Milky Way and unusual bird species in and around the lake in the morning. Hiking in this location will reward you with breathtaking views of the lake, hamlet, and mountains. In addition, while hiking, you will be able to spot some lovely birds.

  7. Jisev, a picturesque mountain village, is an ideal Tajik escape. Take a stroll around the village or go for a short hike along with one of the many lakes. The craggy mountains and dotted trees create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

To get to the first village, you'll need to walk for around two hours, up and down a small trail that follows the slope of the hills. You'll cross tumbling rivers and lonely mountain lakes along the way. If you travel in August, you might even be able to see wild cherries growing alongside the rivers. When you cross the river, you will be leaving behind not only motorized traffic but also any phone or internet connection.

In the village, there are a few houses that are clustered together in groups of 2-3 dwellings. Vehicles are not delivered to Jisev. The good news is that you'll be able to spend the night in a typical Pamiri house and learn about the local culture and traditions.
