For her debut extended play (EP), The Time of Our Lives, American singer Miley Cyrus recorded the song Party in the U.S.A. (2009). It is one of the best party songs ever. It served as the project's lead single when Hollywood Records made it available on August 11, 2009. Dr. Luke wrote and produced the song, and Jessie J and Claude Kelly contributed additional lyrics. They passed Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA" after thinking it wasn't edgy enough for Jessie J. Cyrus then changed the lyrics to fit her persona. With lyrics that highlight her move from Nashville, Tennessee, to Hollywood, California, it is a pop song.

The song reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US at number two. The song finished 2009 as the seventh-best-selling digital single in the US. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded it seven platinum records, and Music Canada awarded it four platinum records. The song has six million pure sales in the United States as of July 2017. Party in the U.S.A. became one of the few songs in history to achieve this milestone when Cyrus officially received a plaque with an RIAA Diamond certification for it in 2020 during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
