Pearl Abyss
The South Korean studio Pearl Abyss is responsible for the acclaimed cross-platform massively multiplayer online role-playing game Black Desert Online and the forthcoming open world action adventure Crimson Desert.
Kim Daeil and Youn Jaemin, formerly of Hangame and NHN Gaming, launched the company in September 2010 and immediately set to work on creating Black Desert Online.Due to the overwhelming response to the game, Pearl Abyss has opted to distribute it independently, rather than working with a third party publisher, as was originally planned.
Crimson Desert, inspired by the popularity of Black Desert Online, will be a single-player action adventure game. The Eve Online developer and publisher CCP Games was acquired by Pearl on September 6, 2018, for a reported US$425 million. CCP Games would take over the company's development studios in Reykjavk, London, and Shanghai, while Pearl Abyss would take over CCP's publishing and marketing operations.
