Surplus Princess (2014)

Nam Joo-hyuk made his television debut in Surplus Princess, also known as The Idle Mermaid, a 2014 tvN drama. It is a contemporary retelling of The Little Mermaid. A mermaid arrived in modern-day Seoul to meet her "prince charming" in this narrative. She explored human existence by dropping a smartphone into the water, which ignited her desire to live like one.

She encounters the attractive chef in the pool one day. They eventually kiss. They wish to see each other again after that occurrence. She is now much more determined to become human in order to meet him. She gains two legs by swallowing a witch's potion. That potion, however, is only accessible for 100 days. She will explode into bubbles if she does not discover her true love within that time frame. Joo-hyuk plays the supporting role of Park Dae-bak, commonly known as Big, in this drama. He is a computer whiz who was abandoned by his parents and now lives at the excess house.
