The Bride of Habaek (2017)
Nam Joo-hyuk portrayed Habaek, a god of the Land of Water, in this 16-episode drama. Habaek travels to Earth to obtain the sacred stones he requires to take the throne of the Divine Realm. He seeks the assistance of neuropsychiatrist So-ah (Shin Se-Kyung), who happens to be the last survivor of a middle-class family cursed to serve him for centuries. What's fascinating about this figure is that, despite being a deity, Habaek was clumsy in his human form.
So-ah was skeptical of Habaek's allegation because of his awkwardness. She refuses to accept he is a deity, instead mistaking him for having a mental disorder. But after meeting the gods of the Land of Water, the Land of Sky, and the demigod Hu-ye (Lim Ju-hwan), she understands she should assist him on his journey. Nam Joo-hyuk stated that portraying a god who was also clumsy was difficult. But he managed to achieve a balance while keeping the character's god-like air.
