Tashkent Medical Academy
Tashkent Medical Academy is a public medical school and research institution in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with undergraduate and graduate programs. The TMA is one of Uzbekistan's oldest and largest universities, as well as the country's hub for medical education and research in medicine and life sciences.
It began as the Turkestan State University's Faculty of Medicine in 1920, and was renamed the Tashkent Medical Institute in 1931, State Medical Institute in 1936, and the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute in 1990. By Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in 2005, the Tashkent Medical Academy was established by uniting the First and Second Tashkent State Medical Institutes.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan's capital, is home to the main campuses. Six faculties, 52 departments, the TMA Multidisciplinary Clinic, and the Interuniversity Research Scientific Laboratory make up the TMA. TMA has three branches in the cities of Urgench, Termez, and Fergana that operate as autonomous institutions.
