University of California, Berkeley (UCB)

The University of California has 235,000 students, 19,000 academic members, and 190,000 staff employees scattered over 10 campuses. UC Berkeley, the university's initial campus, opened in 1868. Berkeley is likewise ranked first among the 10 universities in terms of the quality of its engineering instruction and research, followed by UCLA (Los Angeles) and UC Santa Barbara.

Berkeley's 1,200-acre campus, which overlooks San Francisco Bay, is well-known for its numerous libraries and labs. The institution has 36,000 students, 1600 full-time professors, and 600 part-time academics. The university's School of Engineering has around 3,200 students. Electrical engineering and computer science were the most popular courses at the institution for the 2013 academic year. There are also substantial mechanical, nuclear, and bio-engineering departments within the School.

Berkeley is where plutonium was discovered in 1941 and where the first atomic weapon was developed. Today, engineering study encompasses a wide range of topics, including electronics, robots, the environment, and biomedicine. The electronics laboratory is the largest, and it performs research in fields such as sensors and actuators. This technology, which automatically corrects screen displays to accommodate vision impairments and eliminate the need for spectacles, is an excellent example of scientific effort.
