UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a public research university in Cape Town, South Africa. The university is located in the Western Cape province. The University of Cape Town (UCT) is the country's oldest higher education institution, having been founded in 1829 as the South African College. It is the oldest university in South Africa, as well as the oldest existent university in Sub-Saharan Africa, alongside Stellenbosch University, which was granted full university status on the same day in 1918.
The institution is divided into six faculties including Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Law, Sciences and Humanities, and Social Sciences and Humanities, with a total of 57 departments. A Dean is in charge of the faculties, while a Director is in charge of their administrative and operational concerns. The Senate has given the faculties significant authority over their internal procedure and management in academic affairs, such as class schedules, admission standards, academic exclusion, examinations, and research projects.
