University of the West Indies Open Campus
The Open Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) is one of the four campuses that make up The UWI, which was founded in 1948. It can be seen as one of the best universities in Barbados. From all of its locations in the Caribbean area, the institutionally accredited UWI serves the people of the region by providing higher, distance, and continuing education programs, research and innovation, and outreach services. In the Caribbean region, The Open Campus has developed a unique approach to enhancing the student experience in innovative continuing and professional education, undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education study programs and courses delivered via distance, blended, online, and face-to-face learning modes.
The Open Campus was created in order to improve services to non-campus areas. The University of the West Indies Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC), the School of Continuing Studies (formerly the Extra Mural Department), the Tertiary Level Institutions Unit, and the Office of the Board for Non-Campus Countries & Distance Education were all brought together (BNNCDE). The Open Campus was approved in 2007. Additional financial, human, technological, and administrative resources, as well as a structure, were granted to this Campus in order to better serve non-campus territories. Apart from its main campus in Barbados, UWIOC has locations in 17 English-speaking Caribbean countries and territories: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, and so forth. On July 10, 2014, the school received accreditation and has since been recognized as one of the best in the region. The school, which has roughly 23,000 students, has given out 104 postgraduate awards and 79 undergraduate students have received honors.
At one of its many regional learning centers, the Open Campus provides a wide choice of distance and face-to-face programs. The Open Campus offers certificate, diploma, associate, and bachelor's degree programs in subjects such as education, business and public administration, sports, technology, humanities, and social sciences at the undergraduate level. Similarly, the Open Campus provides graduate-level programs in relevant fields at the advanced certificate, postgraduate diploma, master's, and doctorate levels. Courses and certificates that would be deemed continuing and professional education, prior learning assessment, and summer school courses are available on the Campus.
The Open Campus has around 50 in-country site locations in 17 Caribbean nations, where they offer over 200 complete academic programs and countless short continuing and professional education courses, in addition to their online and blended programs.
