The University of the Southern Caribbean was founded in 1927 as East Caribbean Training School, for the purpose of educating the youth of the Caribbean Union Conference. The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI) exists to provide unparalleled, diverse educational opportunities and empowerment while expanding and strengthening partnerships. The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute was founded in 1997 to address the need for trained professionals in the growing tourism and hospitality industries to compete in a globally competitive market alongside other Caribbean islands.
In 2006, THTI fully implemented the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Caribbean Tourism Learning Systems Core Curriculum program, aligning courses with those taught at other institutions throughout the region. The curriculum enables students to transfer between tourism training organizations seamlessly, and more importantly, offers a broader range of employment opportunities. In 2009, THTI became the first indigenous Tobago institution to be registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago. The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) was legally established as a body corporate on October 27th, 2000 by Act of Parliament (Act No. 77 of 2000).
