Ain Shams University
Next on our list of best universities in Egypt is Ain Shams University. It is a public university in Cairo, Egypt, founded in 1950. It was the third higher education institution to be established in Egypt, and it was erected on the site of a former royal house - the Zaafarana Palace – so named because the area surrounding it was famous for saffron plantations ('zaafaran', in Arabic).
Today, the university is organized among seven distinct campuses, all of which are located in the Greater Cairo area, and it includes 15 faculties as well as various research centers. On-campus, students have access to residential amenities as well as sports and recreational opportunities.
The administration of the university, as well as the faculties of Arts, Law, and Science, are all housed on the main campus in Cairo's Abassia neighborhood. Commerce, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Education, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Computers and Information Sciences, Education, and Nursing are among its other faculties.
Ain Shams encourages students to study abroad and has academic affiliations with many overseas universities, including the University of Birmingham and Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, Monash University in Australia, and McGill University in Canada.
Egyptian Prime Ministers Abd El Aziz Muhammad Hegazi and Serif Ismail, as well as American philosopher Charles Butterworth, are Ain Shams alumni.
The university's insignia features an obelisk and two hawks, which connects Ain Shams University to O'n University of ancient Egypt, which is supposed to have been around 5000 years ago as a renowned center of knowledge in astronomy, engineering, and medicine.
