Mansoura University
Mansoura University began in 1962 as a medical faculty under the administration of Cairo University. A presidential decree established a university called "East Delta University" in 1972, but it was renamed Mansoura University a year later. It is one of the best universities for students to choose from.
Mansoura University lies in the city of Mansoura, on the east bank of the Nile, some 120 kilometers northwest of Cairo. The main campus of Mansoura University is located in the city center and includes 15 faculties, three big housing complexes, a student hospital, restaurants, a dining hall, and a well-equipped sports complex.
Four university faculties are located off-campus: the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Special Education, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, and the Faculty of Kindergartens.
The university is well-known for its medical facilities, which include a children's hospital, a Medical Experimental Research Centre (MERC), and a Urology and Nephrology Centre – in fact, the Urology and Nephrology Centre is the largest of its kind in Africa and was founded by renowned Egyptian urologist Mohamed Ghoneim.
Former politician Ayman Nour, political activist Khairat el-Shater, and novelist Mohamed Mansi Qandil are all Mansoura University grads.
