Amityville House
Amityville House is probably one of the most expensive haunted houses, and it has been the subject of numerous horror films over the years. However, in real life, Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six members of his family. Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed them on November 13, 1974, at 112 Ocean Avenue, a large Dutch Colonial house in a suburban neighborhood in Amityville, on Long Island's south shore. In November 1975, he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to six years to life in prison. In March 2021, DeFeo died in custody.
George and Kathy Lutz and their three children moved into the house in December 1975. The Lutzes fled the house after 28 days, claiming to have been terrorized by paranormal phenomena while living there. They hear voices, hear music, and smell noxious odors.
Amityville House's value is primarily due to its celebrity. Other comparable-sized houses in the area sell for around $600,000, but maybe you're paying nearly double that to be potentially murdered by ghosts.
