Kimbell Castle
Kimball Castle in Gilford, New Hampshire, United States, was built by a wealthy railroad baron and is now for sale for $879,000. This castle has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and sits on 23 acres, which also houses a number of outbuildings. Benjamin Kimball built the castle in 1897 after being inspired by an interesting castle he saw in Germany. The structure cost $50,000 to build at the time, which equates to more than $1.2 million in modern dollars. The castle, which was once stunning in its grandeur and featured on postcards, has long been neglected and is now considered by town officials to be an 'unattractive nuisance' and an 'extreme hazard.'
The dilapidated manor has deteriorated to the point where it was featured on an episode of 'Ghost Hunters' in the United States a few years ago. The actual haunting does not appear to be particularly frightening. The previous occupants of the structure stated that the doors open and close and that they can hear horses in the existing stable on the property.
