Britannia Manor II
Because of a 2007 episode of the HGTV television series Secret Spaces on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, this house has earned the title of the most famous haunted house. The Britannia Manor II was built in 1987 and is located on a hill in Austin, Texas. While the house may not be haunted by genuine paranormal residents, it has hosted numerous spooky Halloween parties and haunted house fun.
Britannia Manor was famous before 1995 for hosting the most elaborate haunted house in the United States. Garriott, who is its old owner, spent a lot of money on his haunted house's makeup, tools, construction materials, special effects, and costumes every two years around Halloween. Britannia Manor was a full-on Halloween experience. The events were designed in the style of a role-playing game. Participants would travel through Garriott's mountain property in adventuring parties, gathering clues to solve mysteries and quests while confronted with various perils and pitfalls.
