Aspen is well-known for its skiing, but few people realize that it is also a fantastic spot to visit in the autumn to view the fall colors. It is a terrific fall trip to view the Aspen trees turning golden yellow. It is named for the gorgeous Aspen trees. The finest time to visit Aspen is in late September and early October when the fall colors are at their optimum. Denver International Airport is the closest international and popular airport for affordable flights to Aspen. In October and September, Aspen is around 2 hours from Denver and may be accessed by the picturesque Independence Pass.
Visiting Maroon Bells State Park while in Aspen is highly recommended. The walks up these twin peaks are beautiful, and the fall colors are some of the greatest in Aspen. Also, for more spectacular fall colors, wander around North Star Nature Preserve. Another intriguing thing to do is ride the gondola to Aspen Mountain for spectacular mountain vistas. The St. Regis Aspen Resort and the Aspen Meadows Resort are both excellent places to stay in Aspen. If the hotels in Aspen are fully booked or too pricey, consider staying in Snowmass, a neighboring hamlet.
