Black Hills, South Dakota
The Black Hills of South Dakota is an underappreciated autumn destination. There are several gorgeous routes and fantastic walks to get out and simply observe the fall foliage that brightens up the area in September and October. The region is ideal in the fall since there are fewer people and the temperature is ideal, neither too hot nor too chilly. There are many wonderful activities to attend in the Black Hills in the fall. Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Launch, Deadwood Jam, Plein Air Paint Out, Custer State Park Buffalo Round-Up and Arts Festival, Great Downtown Pumpkin Festival, and Crazy Horse Fall Volksmarch are among them.
Deadwood Oktoberfest, Bierborse, Black Hills Powwow, and Deadweird are all held in October. Between all of these amazing fall activities, take some time to climb (Black Elk Peak or Cathedral Spires Trail) or take a picturesque drive (Iron Mountain Road or the Needles Highway). There is so much to do in the region, and the fall season is the greatest time to do it all.
