Hudson Valley, New York

The Hudson Valley in New York is an excellent location for an autumn trip. There is a lot to do. It is a hiker's heaven if you enjoy being active. The High Peterskill Path in Mohonk Preserve and the Minnewaska Lake Loop trail in Minnewaska State Park both lead to viewpoints with spectacular views of fall woodlands. The Mohonk Mountain House is a lovely spot to stay, with several hiking paths nearby. There are fantastic drives throughout the valley to soak in the fall colors if you want a more sedentary experience.

The two middle weekends in October are traditionally the greatest dates for peak autumn foliage, but because the valley runs from New York City in the south to Albany three hours to the north, the leaf-peeping season is rather long. Another enjoyable activity is to visit one of the numerous farms that are open for fall activities. There are several apple orchards where you may pick your own apples. Hayrides, corn mazes, and even pumpkin patches are available to help you get into the Halloween spirit. Continue the Halloween fun at the Great Jack o'Lantern Blaze, where over 3,000 pumpkins are carved and placed in intricate displays that grow year after year. It's a breathtaking sight.
