Autonomous University of Querétaro
Octavio S. Mondragón founded the Autonomous University of Querétaro in 1951 as a high school and university that solely provided legal and engineering degrees, despite its origins dating back to 1625, from the Jesuit College of San Ignacio. Since then, the university has added additional programs, including the formation of the schools of chemistry and nursing in 1952. Later, in 1953, the Institute of Fine Arts was established, and in 1954, the School of Commerce was founded.
The schools of psychology and contemporary languages were established in 1967.
In December 1973, the Cerro de las Campanas site was designated as the main campus.
The school of medicine was established in 1978, while sociology was included in 1984. Veterinary science studies began in 1985, and both the school of informatics (computer science) and the school of philosophy debuted in 1978. On the grounds of the former Ing. Fernando Espinoza Gutiérrez International Airport, the institution launched its new language learning facilities in 2010.
Cerro de las Campanas, Amealco, Amazcala, Cadereyta, Corregidora, Jalpan, Juriquilla, San Juan del Ro, and Tequisquiapan are the locations of UAQ's nine campuses. Because the university administers 13 colleges and six secondary schools, the total number of students reached 28,110 in 2016, including over 19,000 undergraduates and over 2,500 undergraduates.
The school's motto is "I educate in truth and in honour," so the university has been eager to establish connections and affiliations to their programs through membership in the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES) in Mexico and the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC) in Tucson, Arizona.
Querétaro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where high biodiversity and diverse habitats coexist. From mountain adventures and a tour of the Great Sierra Gorda to resting in any of the local towns surrounded by vineyards and cheese manufacturers, the city has a lot to offer. Visiting Capuchinas monastery and St. Augustine's medieval cloister are amazing adventures that must be done while studying in this town.
With all these features, Autonomous University of Querétaro is definitely one of the best universities in Mexico.
