Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo

In 1869, the Instituto Literario y Escuela de Artes y Oficios (Literary Institute and School of Arts and Crafts) in Pachuca became the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH), or Autonomous University of Hidalgo State.

It relocated to the old San Juan de Dios Hospital (established in 1725), which is now the university's Central Building, in 1875.

The institution was shuttered multiple times during the Mexican Revolution (1910-17), but it survived. In 1921, it was renamed the University of Hidalgo, but in 1925, it reverted to its previous name.

Medicine, law, and engineering programs were established in the 1940s, and it was granted autonomy in 1948.

UAEH is the state's oldest and largest university, and it is regarded as one of the greatest institutions in Ibero-America and Latin America. It is a member of the Consortium of Mexican Universities (CUMEX) and best universities in Mexico for postgraduate studies.

In the capital city of Hidalgo, Pachuca, it is separated into six faculties. Actopan, Apan, Atotonilco de Tula, Ciudad Sahagn, Huejutla de Reyes, Minderal del Monte, Tepei del Ro, Tizayuca, Tlahuelilpan, Tulancingo, and Zimapán are among the other campuses in Hidalgo, as well as four preparatory schools in the Pachuca region.

Students from the state capital and state territories make up the majority of the student body. There are a few overseas students as well as students from other states.
