On 16 July 1885, the Broken Hill Company was founded in the mining town of Silverton, New South Wales. Even as an established company, the BHP Group retains its position as the largest company in Australia by far. In 2014, BHP Group's market value of $151.4 billion peaked at an attractive rate given its current asset value. BHP officially became the world's largest mining company by market capitalization and Melbourne's third largest by revenue in 2017.
