Woodside Energy
One of Australia's top oil and gas exploration and production businesses is Woodside Energy Group Ltd. It is a publicly traded corporation listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with its corporate headquarters in Perth, Western Australia. Woodside was listed as the 1328th largest public corporation in the world in the 2020 Forbes Global 2000.
Woodside was founded on 26 July 1954 as the small town of Woodside, Victoria by accountant Rees Withers with the primary purpose of focusing on exploration activities into the Gippsland Basin of Victoria. In August 2021, Woodside and BHP jointly signed an agreement to merge the two companies oil and gas assets. It was not until 2022 that the merger with oil and gas assets BHP was completed and the combined entity listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange. Since then, the company has primarily focused on exploration activities into Victoria's Gippsland Basin.
Currently, Woodside operates exploration and development operations in Australia and a number of other countries such as the United States, South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Myanmar, Gabon, and Cameroon. In Australia, Woodside operates and develops a number of liquefied natural gas projects, as well as operates the Enfield and Pyrenees oil fields off Exmouth in Western Australia.
