Fortescue

Fortescue Metals Group Limited, commonly known simply as Fortescue, is one of Australia's largest iron ore companies. In 2017, the company is considered the fourth largest producer of iron ore in the world holding more than 87,000 square kilometers in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The company owns two main mining operations located in the Pilbara region, Chichester Hub and Solomon Hub. In particular, located in the heart of Pilbara, the Chichester Hub mining site is made up of Fortescue's premier minefield, Cloudbreak, and its second, Christmas Creek. Since coming into operation, Chichester Hub has produced a total of 90 million tons of iron ore per year plus an additional 5 tons from its joint venture with BC Iron.

The Solomon Center is Fortescue's next major project after the Chichester Hub, with possession of nearly double the mining resources of the Chichester Center. At the Solomon Center, Fortescue's exploration team has localized more than 2.86 billion tons of resources and identified exploratory opportunities with potential reserves of up to 5 billion tons. The 20 million tonnes per year Firetail mine in Solomon was formally inaugurated by Fortescue in May 2013. Besides, the following project in the central Solomon Islands, the Queens Valley mine, has been cleared for development in 2019 at an estimated cost of AU$ 417 million. The mine, which is 15 kilometers west of the Kings Valley mine, is scheduled to begin operations in 2022 and will have a huge mining capacity.
