Macquarie
Macquarie Group Limited is an Australian global financial services group headquartered at 50 Martin Place Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Macquarie was incorporated on 10 December 1969 as Hill Samuel Australia Limited, a subsidiary of Hill Samuel & Co. Limited is owned by the United Kingdom. Today, it has more than 17,000 employees in 33 markets around the world. Macquarie is one of the world's largest infrastructure asset managers and Australia's leading merger and acquisition advisor with over $730 billion in assets.
With the development of offices in Seoul and Tokyo, Macquarie continued its growth in Asia in the early 2000s. The decade also saw Macquarie's infrastructure business expand internationally, with funds for infrastructure investments being launched in Korea, China, Europe, Russia, India, and the Middle East. In the late 2000s, Macquarie acquired a number of large companies, many of which were located in the United States, including an energy trading and marketing firm and a physical natural gas business. The Macquarie Corporation is North America's second-largest physical gas trader as of 2018.
Macquarie's businesses are organized into two main operating groups: Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) and Banking and Financial Services (BFS). In particular, MAM is one of the top 50 global asset management firms, handling more than $735.5 billion, and is the largest infrastructure asset management company in the world. BFS, on the other hand, includes Macquarie's retail banking activities and offers around 1.7 million consumers personal banking, wealth management, and business banking products and services.
