Blum & Poe

A visit to Blum & Poe, whose owners Tim Blum and Jeff Poe were instrumental in the formation of the Culver City Arts District in 2003 when they relocated their Santa Monica gallery to a 5,000-square-foot industrial warehouse in the new area, is a must in any art tour of Los Angeles. The gallery, which was once recognized for its abstract paintings, currently represents over 50 artists working in a variety of media. Blum and Poe have created a name for themselves as tastemakers first and foremost by introducing international artists to the American market.

They've produced large-scale studies of worldwide art trends in recent years, including the Japanese Mono-ha moment, the life of Korean Dansaekhwa monochrome painters, and a revisit of Brazilian modernism. In 2021, Blum & Poe partnered with ANOMALY Gallery for the Art Collaboration Kyoto Art Fair, which sought to bridge the distance between the Japanese art scene and the art scene overseas. Artists featured were gathered under the theme of society and labor.
