Laxart
Because of its nonprofit structure, Laxart is able to ask more questions than it answers regarding how you look at societal and political issues through art. The alternative art center in West Hollywood boasts some of the most exciting inquiry-driven exhibitions of interdisciplinary art genres. Laxart, which was once a recording studio where Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, and Jimi Hendrix produced albums, now mostly exhibits sculptural pieces but also hosts poetry readings, jazz performances, and panel discussions centered on moving pictures. It's a space that caters to a growing group of avant-garde thinkers and academics who are drawn to the city's conceptual art scene.
Laxart is a center for multidisciplinary ideas generated via provocation, conversation, and interaction, with a renewed vision for the potential of independent art spaces. Laxart supports the creative practice and curatorial freedom in Los Angeles and around the world by providing a space for the production and display of experimental work.
