Bourscheid Castle

The remnants of the Bourscheid Castle predominate greatly in this area of the Ardennes. Not only is Bourscheid Castle the biggest in the entire nation, but it's also one of the biggest structures between the Rhine and the Meuse. It was expanded in four stages, the last of which was completed in 1430 when the huge enclosure and its several towers were built. From a rocky peak 137 meters above the Sûre, this castle-like fortress rules the surrounding area. The Bourscheid castle, which dates to the tenth century, has undergone a significant amount of restoration and is open to visitors. There are audio tours you may do on your own, and you can also arrange guided excursions in English.

The lords of Bourscheid, who occupied the castle at that time, came from the most illustrious chivalric families in the area. They were the Duke of Luxembourg's devoted vassals, serving as both his advisors and combatants when necessary. Prior to the French Revolution, which ended feudal rule in France, the House of Bourscheid was succeeded by the House of Metternich in 1626.

Check out the castle at night when it is illuminated up if you're searching for something fun to do. It's one of the best things to do for free in Luxembourg, and it's especially unforgettable when seen from the village.
