Luxembourg City History Museum
The Luxembourg City History Museum (Musée d'histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg), one of the country's more recent tourist destinations, was established in 1996 and offers a fascinating look into the city's lengthy 1,000+ year history. With both ongoing and seasonal exhibits, the Luxembourg City History Museum traces the City of Luxembourg's a millennia-long history.
The structure itself is an amazing blend of the old and new, integrating a number of old homes from the 17th and 19th centuries, some with even older medieval sections, such recently found vaulted cellars. These stand in dramatic contrast to the recent additions to the museum.
The earliest settlers of the early colony as well as its expansion and evolution over the ages up to the present day are covered in the exhibits. The Luxembourg City History Museum is home to a sizable elevator and viewing platform that provides stunning views over the city's old Grund district in addition to its numerous excellent exhibits and displays. Workshops and guided tours are also offered in English.
Visit the National Museum of Natural History (Nationalmusée fur Naturgeschicht) as well if you're going to be doing any museum hopping while you're here. This well-liked tourist destination in Luxembourg City offers displays on the local and international natural world.
