Children’s Discovery Museum
In the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area, the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose (CDM) provides cultural services to kids, families, and schools. The Children's Discovery Museum, which is a part of both the Association of Science-Technology Centers and the Association of Children's Museums, is situated on Woz Way in the heart of San Jose, California. Steve Wozniak, a co-founder of Apple Computer known for his moniker "Woz," is honored by having his street given his name. Wozniak was the single largest private gift during the initial capital campaign that helped finance the museum.
The museum opened its doors in 1990, and over 9 million visitors have visited. The museum produces interactive exhibits that address early childhood education and presents them. Ricardo Legorreta, a Mexican architect, created the 52,000-square-foot (4,800 square meters) purple structure. It has a half-acre outdoor nature play area and 28,000 square feet (2,600 m2) of gallery space.
The museum's activities, events, and exhibits have drawn interest on the local, regional, and national levels. Two life-size Columbian mammoth models, authentic explorable vehicles including a fire engine and a Wells Fargo stagecoach, and five areas for the visual and performing arts are included in its exhibitions. The museum is well-known for its Cultural Celebrations series, which highlights the customs and cultures of the various ethnic groups present in this area with a majority of minorities.
