San Jose Museum of Art
The San José Museum of Art (SJMA), located in the heart of San Jose, California, is a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. The museum, which was founded in 1969, features a permanent collection with a focus on 20th- and 21st-century West Coast artists. It is situated next to Plaza de César Chávez at the Circle of Palms Plaza. SJMA, a participant in North American Reciprocal Museums, has won numerous honors from the American Alliance of Museums.
With over 45,000 students served annually, the San José Museum of Art is Santa Clara County's largest supplier of arts education. With an increasing concentration on works by artists from the Pacific Rim, the permanent collection is primarily comprised of contemporary works by US West Coast artists. More than 2,600 pieces of art in a range of media, including sculpture, paintings, prints, digital media, photographs, and drawings, are part of the collection. One of the few galleries that concentrate on West Coast artists is the San José Museum of Art.
