Winchester Mystery House
Sarah Winchester, the widow of Winchester Rifle tycoon William Winchester, constructed the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose in 1884. It once rose to a height of seven stories, but the 1906 San Francisco earthquake caused some damage. The house has four stories currently.
Because Sarah thought the house was haunted by those who had been killed by a Winchester rifle, she had her house erected without the guidance of an architect over the course of the home's 38 years of development. As a result, there are several oddities in the design, including doors and stairs that lead nowhere. Despite the home's 40 bedrooms, there is just one functional bathroom. She thought that by taking these actions during construction, she was confusing the ghosts.
As a renowned tourist destination in San Jose, the house is now in use. The American Fire Arms Museum is situated on the grounds of the Winchester complex. Through exhibits and displays of firearms throughout history, you may discover the history of the Winchester rifle.
