San Jose Heritage Rose Garden

Without visiting the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, no trip to San Jose would be complete. In the middle of the city's metropolitan core is the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, a hidden gem. a remarkable rose garden spanning five acres with 3,500 plants and approximately 3,000 different types. A legacy rose garden should include "unknown" or "found" roses. A heritage rose is one that has undergone extensive breeding over many decades, if not centuries.

Even though the majority of these kinds are from Europe, there are many here that were found in old cemeteries, gardens of older homes, and even some that were literally found beside to a dirt road. The City of San Jose pays for all gardening supplies used to maintain the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, which is tended to by a dedicated army of volunteers. The garden is open to the public for free, although donations are always appreciated and volunteers are always needed.
