Curtin University

Curtin University, formerly the Curtin University of Technology and Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), is a public research university in Bentley, Western Australia. It is named after John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945, and is Western Australia's largest university, with 57,784 students in 2019.


Curtin was granted university status in 1986 after legislation was passed by the Western Australian Parliament. Since then, the university's presence has grown to include campuses in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, and Mauritius, as well as affiliations with 90 exchange universities in 20 countries. The university has five main faculties and more than 95 specialist centers. From 2005 to 2016, it had a campus in Sydney.


Curtin University belongs to the Australian Technology Network. Curtin University conducts research in a variety of academic and practical areas. As of 2020, Curtin University is the only Western Australian university whose students have received the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering's Postgraduate Student Gold Medal.
